Turtle Fest for Families, Stone Harbor

The Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor is hosting its Turtle Fest on Saturday, March 30th.  The admission price for the festival is $10 for adults and $8 for children, they also have family admissions available.  The price includes a pancake breakfast, they even have gluten free pancakes available, arts and crafts, games, face painting, and of course the stars of the show, visits with the turtles.

The purpose of the festival is to raise funds needed to help the diamond back terrapins and awareness of their habitat on our shores which have been taken from them.  With dunes not available for them as their natural habitat, they have been migrating to areas that are more populated, causing their death rates to rise dramatically.  The Wetlands Institute works to educate the public and help the terrapins with plans to protect them.

Call to make your reservation for breakfast!  If you will be in the area for the weekend, please see this post for more happenings.

Atlantic City Fun For Kids, Steel Pier OPEN

Atlantic City has even more fun for kids with the Steel Pier opening today at noon!  There is so much history and excitement on this pier, a great way to spend the day with the family.  They also have numerous Easter events coming up and a sweet ticket deal that you can read about here.

In addition to rides for the kids and thrill seekers, they have games, food, and helicopter rides.  Last season we caught a dare devil motorcycle show that was outstanding, I can’t wait to see what type of entertainment they bring in this year.

Easter In Atlantic City With Kids

All 6 of us will be spending Easter weekend in Atlantic City as we do every year.  With Easter being so early this year our plans will be a bit different from previous years.  In another post I explained our cold weather haunts.  We have so many places to see on our list that we had to sit down and figure out which were our priorities for the weekend.

STEEL PIER – No doubt we are hitting the rides!  And Steel Pier has a great deal going on, Buy One Ride Ticket Book Get One FREE, you can even make your purchase on-line.   The sale will also be available at Steel Pier’s Ticket booths March 23rd & 24th and March 29th – April 1st.

The Easter Bunny will be giving away FREE Goodie Bags, while supplies last.  Visit their website to see all their Easter weekend events www.steelpier.com

BIKE RIDE – Hoping for good weather and loving the extended cycling hours during this time of year, we will go for a ride on the boards.  We generally head down to the park in Vetnor right off the boardwalk for CSURE, a really great playground.

FAMILY FUN STATION – We are going to try out Tropicana’s Family Fun Station.  We like to walk through the Quarter when it is cold out and really enjoy their snow show during the Holiday Season, but, other than that it really just gets us out of the cold, so we are excited for this new option.  Their website states it is an arcade with air hockey, basketball, and skeeball, well, they had me at skeeball! Check their website for hours, it is not open early in the morning or late at night, www.tropicana.net

ABSECON LIGHTHOUSE – It has been fully restored and we can’t wait to climb it!  The Absecon Lighthouse is NJ’s tallest lighthouse and the third tallest in the country, how neat. Visit www.abseconlighthouse.org for current hours and operating days.

LIGHT SHOW – With Spring here we will have the opportunity to catch the  light show “Duality” projected onto Boardwalk Hall before the Summer show begins.  The light show is free and runs every half hour from 8-11pm.AC Light Show

Phew, I’m tired and we haven’t even packed our bags yet!  I am sure there will be several food stops too, what might we be in the mood for, Whitehouse Subs, Tony Baloney’s, Gilchrist pancakes…

Atlantic City With Kids In The Cold, Part 1

Our last visit to Atlantic City with the kids it was cold, like getting blown over, windy cold.  If there weren’t 6 of us and a stroller we would have hopped in one of the rolling carts on the boardwalk.  Need to amuse a kid, or get from point a to point be in the cold or heat, this is the way to do it, instant entertainment, put some money aside for that treat.

We walked down to the Pier Shops at Caesars.  Our kids love the Apple Store, they could have stayed there most of the day.  Me, not so much and besides a few stores down is Brookstone, more playing.  In between there is also a large candy store, we walk quickly past that, but if it is your thing, it is there, and did I mention big?

We make our way to the back of the mall to the water show that runs hourly.  It is a short show, but a highlight for all of us.  Some days we sit on the bottom, some on the top.  This time we went up a floor.  If you are looking at the fountain there is an elevator towards the back on the left, you do not need to go back to the glass elevators.

I am glad we went up a floor this visit because they opened a glow in the dark mini golf place with family rates!  From there we walked towards the glass elevators and grab a Starbucks, what a view.  Then on the glass elevator, finally, kids love it and we go up.

Upstairs is all restaurants but the real highlight is if you walk towards the large, beautiful windows overlooking the ocean.  Snag a chair for the adults and let the kids play in the sand for a bit.  A nice winter treat.
